Kotzebue is an Iñupiaq town 30 miles above the Arctic Circle, just across the Chukchi sea from Russia. Although not nearly as far north as Arctic Scandinavia, it lacks the benefits of the Gulf Stream, so Kotzebue is much colder. I was able to complete two 24-hour circular books—summer and winter--the full landscape moving through 360°, marking time at one hour per page.
